shop party recap

holy moly, i cannot believe 2012 is almost through! i cannot express how happy i am to have folding bones press’ first year end with a success. Shop Party in santa rosa on december 9 was an absolute blast, and one that i am so honored to have been a part of!
we successfully printed and sold Hannah’s Dia de los Muertos holiday gift packs, Saul Art’s sexy santa cards, my Ladies of Letterpress prints, and the Bozart Collective’s Trophy Room coloring books! I handed out my business cards like hot cakes and showed off my Valentine’s Day cards and baby shower invitations to the general public. The local newspaper and an independent radio station both asked to run stories/programs on the art of letterpress, and so many connections were made with potential customers and local artists alike. SO REWARDING!
what i think is most rewarding, though, is teaching the younger generation the ways of letterpress printing! so many parents complimented the kelsey demos, saying that it just made their kid’s day. i dream of taking my new letterpress into classrooms and workshops, and teaching people how to lay type and print their own pieces.
has anyone ever started a Kickstarter before? i am wondering if Glitzy can get some of her sparkle back with a little help from those who’d be willing to learn.
i don’t know about you, but i am truly pooped! it has been such a busy year, and i can only hope to be blessed with another as busy as this has been. cheers to you in the new year!

Bozart Collective and I had a great time at the Sonoma County Book Festival a few weeks back! it was a small turn-out, but we sold some hand-bound coloring books, engaged the public in some letterpress demonstrations with little kelsey, and survived on a growler of Pliny. it was a good day.
i am making sure to sign up for many more fairs and festivals in california, so keep your eyes open in 2013. you will hopefully see us very soon at the november art murmer in oakland.
sign up for my mailing list and i will keep you updated on all upcoming events, as well as send letterpress goodies to your mailbox! : )

did i mention that my boss stumbled upon a 3×5 Kelsey Tabletop press?
my old high school was throwing her out and his friend rescued her for him! while prepping for our booth (and book!) for the Sonoma County Book Festival, i’ve been cleaning the rust and layers of old ink that someone must have left on there during the last printing class of 1968.
the only thing left is to go to the hardware store and get some 3×5 bases made of out plywood. then i will be ready to print. i love her! and so does my sister’s kitten:
september 22! don’t miss the sonoma county book festival in downtown santa rosa! i’ll be there with Bozart Collective and little kelsey, ready to print (hopefully!).
ladies of letterpress conference

it is summer over here! it has been hothothot and so busy. there is a lot left to do, and june is already almost over!
last year i joined a small social network of female printers called the Ladies of Letterpress. have you heard of it? coming up is the second Ladies of Letterpress Conference in asheville, north carolina. i don’t think i am going to get together the funds in time to get out there with all the ladies, but i am definitely getting in on the fun somehow!
one of the sponsors, Mohawk Paper, reached out the the community and arranged a print swap! i’m going to get a design together and print 10 cards and envelopes by the end of july.
i will be sure to keep you updated on that whole process, as well as what i have in store for the Sonoma County Book Festival in september!
